Following the critical review of the preliminary design, the detail design phase begins in earnest. This phase flushes out all aspects of the design to fully specify all components.

Three dimensional CAD models are fully detailed with complete dimensioned drawings for all fabricated parts purchased.

Electrical CAD drawings give circuit layouts with all wires labeled and cabinet layouts dimensioned.

All purchased parts, whether mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, or hydraulic are fully specified.

An extensive notebook includes all pertinent information from bills of materials to detailed drawings to component cut sheets.

As in earlier phases, a critical review at the conclusion of this phase extensively covers all aspects of the total design.
